Courses Offered by the Board

Correspondence Course Order Form

General Land Office - 8 hour course

This home study course consists of 54 questions covering the General Land Office. You must answer 90% of the questions correctly in order to receive a certificate of completion. You will receive a copy of the book, a certification sheet, the questions and answer sheet. This course is available through a mail packet or can be done on-line through the board’s website.

Court Cases - 8-hour course

This home study course covers significant court cases that impact land surveying in Texas. The board will not supply you with copies of court cases. Knowing where to find this material is the surveyor’s responsibility. The exam consists of 50 questions and you must answer 80% of the questions correctly in order to receive a certificate of completion. This course is only available through a mail packet, it cannot be done online.

Ethics – Part One or Part Two - 4 hour course

The board currently has 2 ethics courses – Part One and Part Two. These home study courses cover subject matter written by James Noble Johnson. Each home study quiz consists of 25 questions and you must answer 88% of the questions correctly in order to receive a certificate of completion. You can miss only 3 questions in order to attain this score. You will receive study material, a certification sheet, the questions and answer sheet. These courses are available through a mail packet or can be done on-line through the board’s website.

Continuing Education (CE) Requirements

CE Requirement for Renewal

In order to renew licensure, a surveyor must have 12 continuing education credits/hours by December 31. These must include a minimum of 3 credits/hours over the Act/Rules and/or Ethics that must be taken every year and cannot be carried over. You may, however, carry over up to eight units of other approved CE from the previous year.

Surveyors are required to maintain a record of their own continuing education. Please use our Continuing Education Units (CEU) Log to track your yearly CE.

Audits

After renewals, a percentage of the population will be audited and required to provide continuing education certificates and logs.
